What can you do to get an overseas job?

Submitted by admin on 11 March 2024

Before you start applying for jobs, keep in mind:

  • Narrow down on the sector you would like to work in: This can depend on your degree-level of qualifications, previous experience, or interest.

  • Try to do certificate courses in the skills most sought-after by recruiters. If possible, try to attend seminars or workshops hosted by corporations.

  • Do internships, short-term work, or (remote) part-time jobs in foreign countries. If you are proficient in English, teaching opportunities are open to you. Countries like Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand post a lot of English teaching job openings.

  • Once you have all that covered, you need to determine where you would like to work. Different countries have their requirements. Some may require an English language proficiency certificate. For instance, you need to clear the IELTS General Training exam to work in the UK.

  • Try to get your passport and travel documents ready. If you don't have a passport ready, apply for one right away. The same goes for your visa. Be sure to also look into work permits and other related documents.

  • During your job search, try to look for jobs that offer you accommodations. You can save a lot of money and effort during the first year of your job. It will also help you manage your cost of living.
